Position Title: Vulnerability Management Associate

Location: Remote

Compensation: $25-30/hr. based on experience

Overview: Brooksource is seeking a dedicated Vulnerability Management Associate to enhance our cybersecurity initiatives. This role is perfect for individuals eager to expand their expertise in vulnerability assessment, server operating system patching, and software lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vulnerability Assessment:
  • Perform routine vulnerability evaluations across all IT infrastructure utilizing industry-standard tools.
  • Assess and prioritize vulnerabilities based on their risk, impact, and potential for exploitation.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to ensure timely remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
  • Operating System Patching:
  • Support the management of patching processes for Windows Server and Redhat Linux systems.
  • Develop and execute patch management strategies, minimizing disruption to business activities.
  • Monitor and report on patch compliance throughout the organization.
  • End of Life Software Management:
  • Identify and monitor software nearing or at the end of its service life.
  • Coordinate with application owners and IT teams to strategize and implement upgrades or replacements for outdated software.
  • Ensure that all obsolete software is either decommissioned or updated to maintain security standards.
  • Security Monitoring and Incident Response:
  • Oversee security alerts and incidents related to vulnerabilities and patch management.
  • Assist in investigating and responding to security incidents involving unpatched systems or outdated software.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing security measures and reducing vulnerability risks.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of vulnerability assessments, patch management activities, and software remediation efforts.
  • Create management reports that detail the status of vulnerabilities, patching efforts, and software compliance.
  • Contribute to the formulation of security policies and procedures concerning vulnerability management.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH) are advantageous.
  • Experience:
  • Some background or internships in vulnerability management, operating system patching, or software lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, Rapid7).
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and their respective patching processes.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and change management is beneficial.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
