Position Summary:
This role is integral to the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The selected candidate will represent International SOS and deliver the outlined services. We are seeking a Clinical Perfusion Specialist to provide onsite perfusion services for eligible veteran beneficiaries as referred and authorized by the relevant medical center. The specialist will be required to be on call as necessary and will support procedures for patients in the Intensive Care Unit needing balloon pump or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) assistance.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited Allied Health Education Program in Perfusion Technology. Candidates should possess a degree in perfusion that meets the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in perfusion from a CAAHEP or RQualTM Canada accredited program.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree alongside a post-baccalaureate certificate in perfusion from a CAAHEP or EQualTM Canada accredited program.
  • Must be a US Citizen or hold a Permanent Resident Card.
  • Willingness to relocate for the duration of the contract.
  • Must pass or possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Cardio-Thoracic service with surgical cases, including bypass and valve replacement procedures.
  • Prepare and operate heart-lung machines while maintaining a sterile environment to ensure patient safety.
  • Assemble necessary supplies and equipment for patients requiring extracorporeal circulation during cardiac emergencies.
  • Maintain and operate VA-owned equipment, including heart-lung machines and intra-aortic balloon pumps.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs for VA-owned equipment, keeping accurate records.
  • Ensure availability of a minimum of four complete sets of supplies for open-heart procedures at all times.
  • Set up and operate pumps for surgical procedures beyond open-heart surgery.
  • Document surgical cases, including surgical duration and blood transfusions administered.

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Possess a full and unrestricted license for the services covered by this contract, issued in any US State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Board certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Active certification as a Perfusionist.
  • DEA License.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in open-heart surgery, heart-lung machine operation, membrane oxygenation, and related procedures.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Compensation: Minimum: $72.00/hr | Maximum: $100.00/hr
Compensation is based on various factors, including experience, skills, and geographical market data.
