Industrial Automation Specialist
Job Overview: Compensation Range: $40.00 - $50.00.
Westlake is actively looking for a skilled Industrial Automation Specialist. This role will report to the Plant Engineering Manager and is crucial for the development and execution of sophisticated process control methodologies, standards, and applications aimed at enhancing process safety, production efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness in continuous operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver automation engineering expertise in the specification, design, development, installation, commissioning, and validation of process control systems for large-scale capital projects.
  • Provide operational support on-site for troubleshooting, optimization, incident investigation, and root cause analysis related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • Create process control applications utilizing PLC, HMI, and SCADA technologies.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation specifications to ensure the correct installation of automated systems, along with documented Automation Standards for consistent implementation across all production lines.
  • Lead upgrades of plant control systems.
  • Conduct training for site personnel on the installation and maintenance of hardware, software configuration, and the initiation of automation systems, including documentation to assist in training additional staff.
  • Recommend upgrades for existing electrical, control, and mechanical components as technology evolves, identifying strengths and weaknesses in current equipment.
  • Provide on-site programming for plant automation systems, including process control systems, and develop standard practices to enhance productivity and consistency.
  • Engage in programming, design, installation, and lifecycle management of manufacturing process controls, automation, and field instrumentation technologies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in Instrumentation/Controls, or
    Associate degree with 5 years of Automation experience preferred.
  • At least two of the following experiences totaling three years:
    • Troubleshooting industrial instrumentation and controls using electrical test instruments.
    • Integration of Process Control Systems with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
    • Designing control system architectures and managing control computers, networks, and communications.
    • Implementing advanced control strategies for process optimization.
    • Reading and producing control system documentation, including electrical one-line drawings, cable schedules, functional descriptions, I/O lists, and control schemes.
    • Experience programming AB PLC 5/500/5000.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects focused on implementing changes and improvements.
  • Detail-oriented, capable of executing tasks with precision.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Responsible for personal work and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Compliance with company safety policies is mandatory.
  • May require working in challenging conditions (dust, noise, etc.).
  • Ability to operate safely in a manufacturing environment, which may include lifting up to 20 lbs., standing for extended periods, and other physical activities.
