Role Summary: The Consumer Lending Specialist I position is integral to our credit union's mission of enhancing members' financial well-being through exceptional service. This role embodies our core values, consistently representing the Credit Union in a professional, friendly, and timely manner. The CLS I is essential in making informed lending decisions that contribute to the growth and stability of our institution. Responsibilities include evaluating loan applications, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies. The CLS I also reviews dealership-submitted loan applications while building and maintaining relationships with auto dealerships to drive business growth. Expertise in indirect auto lending practices and familiarity with platforms like Credit Union Direct Lending (CUDL) are crucial for facilitating smooth transactions.

Key Responsibilities: Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.

85% Lending Responsibilities:

· Manage complex loan decisions.

· Oversee the Meridianlink workflow and queues.

· Review loan applications and assess applicants' creditworthiness by analyzing financial documents, credit reports, and other relevant information.

· Evaluate each loan application's risk profile, considering factors such as income, debt-to-income ratio, credit history, and collateral value.

· Make informed lending decisions based on the credit union's policies, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance.

· Collaborate with loan processors, branch teams, and other stakeholders to gather additional information for complex cases.

· Ensure compliance with federal and state lending regulations, credit union policies, and industry best practices.

· Identify potential fraudulent activities and take appropriate actions to mitigate risk.

· Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on industry trends and underwriting guidelines.

· Assist in developing and refining credit policies and risk assessment models.

· Communicate effectively with internal teams to provide insights and contribute to the overall loan processing workflow.

15% Auto Loan Buyer Responsibilities:

· Analyze dealership-submitted loan applications for compliance with lending policies.

· Evaluate applicants' financial information and credit history to determine creditworthiness.

· Assess the risk associated with each loan application and make informed decisions on approvals.

· Utilize expertise in indirect lending practices and CUDL to efficiently underwrite auto loans.

· Develop and maintain strong relationships with auto dealerships, fostering collaboration.

· Identify opportunities to expand the credit union's auto loan portfolio by engaging with dealer partners.

· Monitor the credit union's auto loan portfolio, analyzing performance metrics and identifying growth opportunities.

· Provide exceptional service to members and dealerships, addressing inquiries and ensuring a positive experience.

· Review Quarterly Dealer Scorecards with department management.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting auto and consumer loans, with a focus on dealership relationships.

· Extensive knowledge of indirect lending practices and familiarity with CUDL.

· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in assessing credit risk.

· Understanding of lending regulations and underwriting methodologies.

Licenses: Must be registered as a Real Estate Loan Originator through the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.

Essential Skills:

· Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.

· Ability to identify members' financial improvement opportunities and communicate recommendations.
