Job OverviewPosition: Mechanical Engineer

SHP is seeking a dynamic and driven Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about creating innovative and sustainable design solutions within a collaborative architectural framework. This role provides the chance to engage in projects of diverse scales and complexities, aligning with SHP's mission to enhance lives through thoughtful service and design. The primary focus will be on various building types, including educational institutions, residential complexes, civic buildings, and commercial spaces.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with the Engineering Team to identify and present sustainable design alternatives for our project teams and clients, encompassing non-HVAC solutions.

  • Setting energy performance objectives for project designs and their long-term functionality, employing life-cycle cost analysis as necessary.
  • Conducting load calculations and energy modeling to enhance overall building design efficiency (using tools such as Trane Trace).
  • Designing a range of HVAC systems, including 4-pipe heating and cooling setups, central boiler and chiller systems, VAV air handling units, geothermal solutions, ice storage systems, variable refrigerant flow, and chilled beams.
  • Preparing construction and permit documentation while ensuring quality control and thorough review of drawings and specifications.
  • Exhibiting strong communication and interpersonal skills, thriving in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members, including engineers, architects, and interior designers.
  • Overseeing project design and production, including mentoring junior staff.
  • Assisting with on-site evaluations and energy audits.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology is required (Master's Degree preferred).
  • A PE license is necessary (with the flexibility to obtain it within one year of employment, if the candidate is otherwise a strong fit). Multi-state licensure is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in designing HVAC systems is essential.
  • Proficiency in Revit and/or BIM software is required.
  • Prior experience with an architecture or engineering firm is necessary.
  • Preference will be given to candidates located in the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky metropolitan area.
Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package, including paid vacation, holidays, sick/mental health days, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, health savings account with company contributions, 401(k) with company contributions, performance bonuses, and additional benefits. A competitive salary is anticipated.
