Position Overview
The Quality Assurance Leader is responsible for managing the quality assurance department, ensuring total product and packaging quality, cost efficiency, safety, compliance, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and executing all Quality Assurance protocols to meet plant quality objectives.
- Direct management of all Quality Assurance personnel.
- Ensuring adherence to Food Safety and Food Quality policies and procedures, including but not limited to SQF Code, CFIA, HACCP, and customer quality requirements.
- Management and utilization of laboratory resources (analytical and microbiological), water treatment, syrup blending, sanitation, microbiological equipment, raw materials, and all quality processes.
- Optimizing resources to ensure raw materials and finished products meet specifications and manufacturing standards in compliance with FDA, CFIA, GMPs, HACCP, and other regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing daily Quality Assurance inspections to ensure compliance with product standards.
- Writing, updating, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Quality Assurance Program.
- Leading the internal audit process through continuous improvement initiatives, sharing best practices, and fostering teamwork.
- Developing and implementing Food Safety Fundamentals, the Food Safety Plan, and the Food Quality Plan.
- Overseeing the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF program.
- Communicating essential information to relevant personnel to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of SQF.
- Ensuring all SQF documents are securely stored, maintained, and accessible.
- Managing departmental non-conformances and implementing corrective actions, ensuring all actions are documented and resolved promptly.
- Ensuring compliance with all OHSA and environmental regulations and corporate standards, investigating and identifying root causes of non-compliance.
- Accountable for maintaining a safe working environment through strategies focused on accident reduction and minimizing energy and waste.
- Effectively deploying human resources throughout the department.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or Engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of direct management experience in Quality within a manufacturing setting.
• SQF Practitioner certification is preferred.
• Completion of HACCP training with experience in implementing and maintaining HACCP-based Food Safety plans.
• Familiarity with Quality Assurance management systems, food safety and security standards, and governmental regulations related to the food/beverage industry.
• Experience in Food/Beverage Manufacturing is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, SAP, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, results-oriented.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, adaptable to change.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical: Continuous standing or walking.
• Visual/Sensory: Regular need for moderate attention with one or two senses at a time.
• Work Environment: Repetitive tasks are common.
• Climate: Ability to work in varying ambient temperatures is required.
