Description

ROLE OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Community College Police hierarchy, you will be responsible for enforcing relevant federal, state, city, county, and district regulations. This includes upholding the rules governing the use of college facilities; executing arrests, compiling reports, and providing testimony in legal proceedings; managing traffic and parking; and patrolling college properties to ensure the safety and security of students, visitors, and staff.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate who are seeking lateral transfers. Currently, there are multiple full-time positions available within the District. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply as testing will be available for anticipated openings.

This recruitment aims to create a pool of qualified candidates for current and future temporary and permanent positions within the district for a duration not exceeding one year.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The District Administrative Center, strategically located, manages administrative operations and provides essential services to the three colleges within the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD).

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE
New employees typically start at the initial step of the designated salary range. Current employees promoted to new positions will be placed at a salary step that ensures a minimum increase comparable to a one-step raise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Ensure the safety and security of students, visitors, and staff by patrolling college facilities.
- Issue and manage traffic and parking citations following established protocols; direct traffic during events.
- Investigate incidents occurring on campus; perform arrests and prepare necessary reports; provide court testimony as needed.
- Deliver security and police services during college events.
- Conduct foot or vehicle patrols of college properties to maintain order and prevent criminal activity; secure buildings and equipment; report any hazardous conditions.
- Respond to alarms and service calls; apprehend violators; provide emergency first aid; engage with suspicious individuals.
- Address complaints and requests for assistance from the college community; coordinate with other law enforcement and emergency services as necessary.
- Control crowds during special events.
- Foster effective working relationships with students and the public; provide information and guidance as appropriate.
- Adhere to the Police Policy and Procedures Manual and other departmental policies.
- Collaborate professionally with diverse stakeholders, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and equity-mindedness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduation or equivalent educational proficiency.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Obtain a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate.
- Pass a physical agility assessment.
- Secure a valid California driver's license upon employment.
- Hold valid First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Meet California Government Code requirements.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Successfully complete a background investigation.
- Pass medical and psychological evaluations upon conditional job offer.
- Complete departmental field training.
- Pass a polygraph examination if required.
