Job Summary

As a Per Diem Child Life Specialist I at UCLA Health, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and engaging environment for infants, children, and families at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain developmentally appropriate environments for patients and their families.
  • Provide psychological preparation, procedural support, and medical play for patients and their siblings.
  • Utilize developmental knowledge to guide patients in coping mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with a skilled and experienced staff to ensure a family-centered and emotionally supportive environment.
  • Create and provide activities to promote group/self-expression, peer interaction, and normalization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Family Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of a 600-hour internship supervised by a certified child life specialist.
  • Child Life Specialist certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Experience working with typically developing children and hospitalized children and teens.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and rapport-building skills.
  • Knowledge to operate and maintain equipment for patient distraction and entertainment.
