Position Overview:

The Behavior Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering educational and behavioral services to individuals with special needs. This position involves collaboration with educational professionals and behavioral experts to meet the learning and behavioral objectives of clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to directives from the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), educators, and program supervisors.
  • Implement behavior management strategies, including prevention, intervention, and consequence techniques.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Review and execute behavior intervention plans effectively.
  • Assist in achieving behavioral and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) goals outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Support academic instruction under the guidance of educators.
  • Facilitate the development plans for Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Physical Therapy (PT).
  • Document sessions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately collect behavioral and academic data.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Assist clients in developing independent daily living skills through various self-care activities.
  • Support clients in diverse environments, including classrooms, playgrounds, and other settings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred experience includes two years in pediatric settings.
  • Comply with all relevant professional standards.
  • Participation in Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification, if applicable.
  • Health screening as required by regulations.
  • Must fulfill all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as relevant to the job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English are essential.
  • Proficiency in computer skills is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
