Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled LC Mass Spectrometry Scientist to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our Mass Spectrometry Screening Group, you will be responsible for performing complex tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis on high-volume neonatal screening specimens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform highly complex MS/MS and LC-MS/MS analysis on neonatal screening specimens, adhering to standard operating protocols.
  • Evaluate and interpret highly complex data, identifying problems with atypical test results and ensuring final results are captured and reported.
  • Perform routine and specialized preventive maintenance of highly complex equipment, including instrument tuning and post-maintenance checks.
  • Prepare diagnostic reagents and controls accurately, and plan, assign, direct, and monitor the work of others.
  • Actively participate in quality control review, proficiency testing, and equipment performance documentation to ensure consistently acceptable quality assurance and test performance.
Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in laboratory, clinical chemistry, quality control, quality assurance, MS/MS, and LC-MS/MS principles, techniques, and terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work in harmony with other team members, and to lead co-workers by setting a positive work-ethic example.
  • Ability to use aseptic techniques when working with infectious material, and to complete tasks without close supervision and use mature judgment in test interpretation.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a laboratory setting, with frequent exposure to hazardous materials and equipment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and make technical decisions based on professional knowledge and experience.
