Clinical Mass Spectrometry Team Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Mass Spectrometry Team Lead to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities, resources, quality assurance, and operations of high complexity critical testing services performed in the team.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the daily testing activities of the Lysosomal Storage Disorders Screening Team, prioritizing work, scheduling, and planning workflow, making assignments among team members, and overseeing progress of assigned tasks.
- Ensure high quality of analytical reporting is maintained, performing and documenting periodic quality control review, including equipment maintenance and performance, proficiency testing records, temperature and humidity monitoring, specimen workload tallies, training and competency records, and supply inventory.
- Perform highly complex liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis of high volume neonatal screening specimens, evaluating and interpreting complex data, assigning final results, and completing all documentation with required information.
- Provide excellence in customer service to internal and external customers, serving as a knowledgeable resource to laboratory personnel on difficult instrumentation and analytical issues, and consulting with physicians and public health staff regarding specimen collection and submission requirements, test results, and interpretation.
- Assist in staffing management, monitoring and providing feedback to supervisor on team members' technical performance, training employees on instrument maintenance, preparation of internal standard solutions, mobile phases, and performing analytic assays adhering to standard operating protocols.
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory, clinical chemistry, quality control, quality assurance, and MS/MS and LC-MS/MS principles, techniques, and terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, follow written and verbal instructions, interact effectively with staff, and work in harmony with other team members.
- Ability to lead co-workers by setting a positive work-ethic example, follow standard operating procedures and protocols accurately, keep accurate, detailed records, and use aseptic techniques when working with infectious material.
- Ability to complete tasks without close supervision, use mature judgment in test interpretation, prioritize and organize detailed tasks to maintain required section timeframes, recognize and solve work area problems, and use, maintain, and troubleshoot work area instruments and automated testing equipment.
This position is located in a laboratory setting and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and high levels of accuracy. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and make technical decisions based on professional knowledge and experience.
