Mobile Application Engineer - 6 month extendable contract.

Position Summary

As part of the Store Retail Services division, this engineer will collaborate within a team to design, develop, and implement some of the most utilized retail systems globally. The organization is pioneering a new era of store systems that empower associates to enhance their efficiency while delivering exceptional service to customers. They are integrating solutions that merge online, mobile, and in-store experiences, enabling customers to enjoy a seamless shopping journey.


The teams operate in an agile and cloud-centric environment. They contribute to open-source initiatives and foster community engagement, learning from one another daily. With a startup-like culture, they are eager to expand their team with software engineers who take pride in their work and are prepared to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting.

The role involves designing, developing, and implementing web-based Java applications to meet business needs. Adhering to approved life cycle methodologies, the engineer will create design documentation and conduct program coding and testing. Technical challenges will be addressed through debugging, research, and investigation. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry or a related area are required. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field is essential, along with a degree of creativity and independence.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience in designing and developing large-scale (millions of users) UI and/or backend applications
- Familiarity with RESTful API development
- Knowledge of publishing and consuming messages with Kafka or similar technologies
- Proficiency in React Native or native programming languages
- Experience with microservices and/or containerization using Spring Boot or similar technologies
- Familiarity with GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with cloud-deployed applications

The engineer will be part of the Next Gen POS team, gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies such as React Native, Kotlin, automation, and Azure cloud. There will be opportunities to transition to an R&D team focusing on machine learning, AI, and Python for those interested in expanding their skill set.

Work Environment

The work environment is highly collaborative and agile. The current team consists of fewer than 10 members, with plans to expand to 20 developers in the coming year. Impact on Customers

By modernizing the POS process, the team aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility in the checkout experience, ultimately improving customer satisfaction. This modernization will reduce wait times and minimize human error. The Next Gen POS will incorporate facial recognition technology to verify age for age-restricted purchases, ensuring compliance and enhancing security.
