As a Medical Assistant at Becker Health, you will play a vital role in supporting the provision of care within our physician department. Your interactions with patients, families, and staff members will be key to maximizing successful patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for office visits or outpatient procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience.
- Obtain vital signs and weigh patients, maintaining accurate records.
- Update problem and medication lists at each patient visit, ensuring up-to-date information.
- Assist medical providers with procedures, maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
- Perform phlebotomy as needed, adhering to established protocols.
- Check charts regularly for omissions and compliance, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain sterilization processes for all instruments, upholding the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
- Make referral and prescription calls per medical provider's orders, communicating effectively with patients and providers.
- Refill prescriptions per protocol and as applicable, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Screen calls, including emergency calls, prioritizing patient needs and responding promptly.
- Ensure all necessary release and consent forms are signed, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform lab testing according to set protocols, maintaining yearly competency and adhering to established standards.
- Perform look-ups on the Maine Prescription Monitoring Program, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Perform Medication Prior Authorizations as needed, upholding the highest standards of patient care.
- Prepare electronic charts with all requested information, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation.
- Schedule patients for procedures in the OR and any outpatient tests, if applicable, coordinating with staff and providers.
- Communicate with patients via various channels, including secure messaging, maintaining effective and timely communication.
- Participate in department quality indicators, contributing to continuous improvement and excellence.
- Collect provider quality data as requested, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists, including inventory management, samples management, and other monitors, ensuring thorough and accurate tracking.
- Obtain working knowledge of IMMPACT procedures, policies, performance expectations, and other relevant information, as needed.
- Maintain compliance with all hospital policies, as well as State, Federal, and CMS policies of licensing and certification, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
- Responsible for maintaining medical record privacy and security according to hospital policies and procedures at all times, upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and discretion.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as the service excellence standards, while completing all tasks and responsibilities.
- Provide coverage for other DECH/CCH physician offices when necessary, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Seek out needed information by staying informed and involved, attending meetings, reading memos, policies, meeting minutes, newsletters, email, and other appropriate information in a timely manner.
- Use patient handling techniques as appropriate to the needs of the individual patient, in keeping with the Safe Patient and Handling and Movement Policy.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times and extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet patient demands.
- Perform duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Comply with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures.
- Other duties, as assigned, that are relevant to the position and department.
