Position Overview:

The role of a School-Based Occupational Therapist is crucial in fostering students' growth and academic achievement by addressing their functional requirements within the educational setting. This position entails evaluating, diagnosing, and delivering therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing students' daily living skills, motor functions, and sensory processing abilities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Perform thorough evaluations to determine students' needs concerning fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, and daily living activities.
    • Employ various assessment methodologies to collect pertinent information and formulate tailored therapy plans.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
    • Collaborate with the educational team, including educators, counselors, and families, to create and execute Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Establish specific, measurable objectives for each student's occupational therapy requirements and devise focused intervention strategies.
  • Therapeutic Interventions:
    • Deliver direct therapy services to enhance students' motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living capabilities.
    • Utilize evidence-based methodologies and personalized therapeutic activities to meet individual needs and facilitate students' participation in school and classroom activities.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Engage closely with classroom educators, special education personnel, and other school professionals to incorporate therapy objectives into everyday classroom practices and address students' functional needs.
    • Provide training and support to educators and staff on strategies to assist students with occupational therapy requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain precise and current records of student evaluations, progress documentation, and treatment strategies.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports for IEP discussions, parent meetings, and school assessments, ensuring all documentation complies with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
    • Effectively communicate with parents and guardians to share updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support learning and development at home.
    • Participate in school and community initiatives to raise awareness of occupational therapy and advocate for students' needs.
  • Professional Development:
    • Commit to ongoing professional growth to remain informed about advancements in occupational therapy practices and techniques.
    • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the relevant state. National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification is mandatory.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school environment or with children is highly preferred. New graduates with strong clinical training and a passion for educational settings are also encouraged to consider this opportunity.
