Position Overview:


Gift of Hope is honored to function as the federally recognized not-for-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) that facilitates organ and tissue donation while offering compassionate support to the families of donors in the northern regions of Illinois and northwest Indiana.


Since our establishment in 1986, we have successfully coordinated donations that have transformed the lives of over 23,000 organ transplant recipients and enhanced the lives of countless tissue transplant recipients.


As one of 58 organ procurement organizations within the national organ donation framework, we collaborate with numerous hospitals across our service area.


Our Transportation Specialists are responsible for providing both emergency and non-emergency ground transportation, as well as assisting with property upkeep and building security.



Compensation:


The salary range for this role is $21.50-$23.00 per hour. Gift of Hope offers a comprehensive benefits package.


This is a full-time position, scheduled for night shifts from 4 PM to Midnight.



Key Responsibilities:


The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting Gift of Hope's mission, vision, and core values by delivering compassionate service and fostering a positive culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Complying with all organizational policies and procedures while executing job responsibilities.
  • Ensuring safe and timely emergency and non-emergency ground transportation for organ and tissue recovery teams.
  • Transporting internal and external personnel to various locations, including hospitals and airports.
  • Delivering human organs, blood, and tissue samples as required.
  • Distributing clinical supplies and equipment efficiently.
  • Maintaining a clean and operational condition for all Gift of Hope vehicles.
  • Conducting maintenance checks on delivery vehicles and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Documenting and maintaining thorough logs for routes and deliveries.
  • Utilizing navigation applications and local knowledge to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Performing safety checks for each vehicle prior to use.
  • Assisting with property-related tasks, including security tours, monitoring alarms, and light maintenance duties.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications:


To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following educational and experiential requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Willingness to learn and perform all transportation, property, and security-related duties.
  • Ability to utilize necessary computer applications for job performance.
  • Attention to detail is essential.


Physical Demands:


The physical requirements for this role include:

  • Ability to operate Gift of Hope vehicles to fulfill job duties.
  • Capability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and walk as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Responsiveness to pages within 10 minutes when on call.
  • Use of a personal cell phone for business-related purposes.


Work Environment:


The work environment characteristics include:

  • Driving Gift of Hope vehicles for extended periods within the service area.
  • Normal office setting.
  • Availability to work weekends and outside regular office hours.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and road conditions.
  • Carrying a personal cell phone for accessibility outside regular business hours.
