Description


This role supports the mission of the Y, a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Emergency Response Instructor is tasked with providing exceptional training in first aid, CPR, and AED to both staff and community members.

Your contribution will be vital in equipping participants with essential lifesaving skills, ensuring they feel empowered and ready to act in emergency situations. Collaboration with the YMCA is key to achieving our training objectives.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Facilitate American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED courses for staff and community members, ensuring all sessions are engaging, informative, and compliant with American Red Cross standards as well as YMCA guidelines.


Lead program activities that address community needs and fulfill YMCA goals. Design and expand program offerings in line with strategic and operational plans. Foster and maintain partnerships with local organizations.

Employ diverse instructional techniques to encourage active learning and retention, adjusting methods to suit the audience.

Assess participants' comprehension and performance through practical evaluations and written tests, offering constructive feedback to enhance learning.

Complete and submit all necessary course documentation accurately, including attendance logs, course evaluations, and participant certifications.

Ensure training equipment is well-maintained, clean, and prepared prior to each session, reporting any issues or needs for replacement.

Stay informed about the latest first aid and CPR techniques and engage in ongoing professional development to maintain instructor certification.


Collaborate with the HR Trainer to assist in developing and implementing an annual in-service training calendar.

Engage with all members and staff in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.

Assist in the promotion and distribution of program information.

Advocate for safety awareness and preparedness within the community, motivating participants to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Demonstrate relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Respond promptly to all member and community inquiries and concerns, whether in person, by phone, or via email.


Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and participation in the program.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a current American Red Cross Instructor Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED or be willing to obtain one prior to starting.

Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; Bloodborne Pathogens.


Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications.

Prior teaching or training experience is preferred.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of individuals from all social and economic backgrounds.

Demonstrate leadership skills in a friendly, assertive, professional, and mature manner.

Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a strong attention to detail.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), along with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with program participants, members, directors, and staff.


Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends as necessary to accommodate training schedules.

$15.00 per hour
