Volunteer Engagement Specialist

St. Vincent de Paul Indianapolis is a non-profit organization that relies heavily on volunteers to achieve its mission. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that volunteers are effectively engaged in meaningful tasks that align with the organization's goals.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently. They will also have experience with volunteer management systems and be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Volunteer Services, operations staff, and lead volunteers to engage both individual volunteers and groups in supporting the daily operations of the organization.
The key responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator include:
- Representing the mission of St. Vincent de Paul and fostering a culture of service and commitment to neighbors and volunteers.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, neighbors, and staff.
- Serving as an ambassador of St. Vincent de Paul and actively embodying and promoting its mission and values.
- Upholding and protecting the confidentiality of all St. Vincent de Paul information related to neighbors, customers, and volunteers.
- Leading by example and sharing expertise and offering support to those they work with.
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all volunteers, ensuring a positive experience.
- Clearly communicating and explaining the mission of St. Vincent de Paul to volunteers and stakeholders during tours and interactions.
The Volunteer Coordinator will also be responsible for:
- Collaborating with operational staff and volunteer leaders to identify and plan volunteer activities based on the organization's needs.
- Developing a solid understanding of various tasks and responsibilities within the facility to guide and direct volunteers effectively.
- Planning and organizing meaningful activities for volunteer groups in advance, ensuring a well-coordinated experience.
- Assigning, directing, and overseeing volunteer tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Monitoring volunteers during their activities, ensuring they are supported and able to complete their work efficiently.
- Working with the Director of Volunteer Services to recognize and appreciate volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
The Volunteer Coordinator will also provide volunteers with the tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks safely and effectively, communicate any concerns involving volunteers to the Director of Volunteer Services and/or the Director of Operations, and assist with cleanup and organizing after volunteer sessions to maintain a safe and functional environment.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the organization's mission and values and be able to embody them in their work. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work 20 to 24 hours per week, weekdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with flexibility, and two Saturdays per month from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
