About the Position

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Technical Support Specialist to join our team. As a Technical Support Specialist, you will provide technical assistance to computer users, including faculty and staff, and perform various technical duties to ensure the smooth operation of our computer systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and configure software, hardware, and peripherals to meet the needs of our users.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues with computer systems, mobile devices, and other technical equipment.
  • Provide technical support for classroom AV systems, printers, projectors, and other technical equipment.
  • Set up, upgrade, troubleshoot, and image computer systems running Windows 10/11 and macOS.
  • Install, configure, and maintain classroom technologies, including projectors, control panels, TVs, and Apple peripherals.
  • Create and manage user accounts and permissions, and enforce security best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and report network connection issues, and set up network access with users.
Requirements
  • Three years of experience in a technical field or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and advanced knowledge of Windows and Apple Mac platforms.
  • Proven track record of servicing Mac OS systems built with Intel chips and the new silicon chips.
  • Experience setting up Apple computers and installing and maintaining AV systems for classrooms.
  • Computer Help Desk experience and at least one year of experience working in Information Technology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in a computing field.
  • Previous experience in computer labs management, including JAMF registration and systems management and SCCM.
  • Understanding of IT security concepts, including information security and risk assessment, and the ability to enforce security best practices.
  • Understanding of Web 2.0 applications and licensing agreements for Higher Education.
  • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
