Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Clerk to join our team at the St. Johns County Health Department. As a key member of our clinical services area, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless scheduling, registration, and check-in processes for our clients. Your exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail will be essential in maintaining accurate client records and facilitating efficient communication with medical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Register and verify client demographic and insurance information in the Health Management System (HMS)
• Perform client registration accurately and positively with clients
• Initiate records for new patients per established guidelines and procedures
• Conduct financial eligibility interviews to determine client payer source or sliding fee scale category
• Bill services to clients, Medicaid, or third-party insurance within HMS
• Process end-of-day credit card reports and return cash drawers with receipts to the fiscal office
• Schedule follow-up appointments as indicated by medical staff
• Serve as receptionist for incoming and outgoing calls for information, referral, appointments, and/or re-routing
• Check-in clients, provide information, schedule appointments, and refer clients as needed
• Confirm upcoming appointments with clients
Medical Records:
• Responsible for all incoming and outgoing faxes to the Health Business Office and Clinical Operations
• Attach confirmation and documentation to clinical documents in the HMS for incoming and outgoing faxes
• Complete proper procedure for processing all faxes
• Ensure that all necessary documents are scanned and correctly attached in HMS
Billing and Insurance:
• Assist with billing individuals and insurance companies for services performed
• Handle collection of fees, co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances from clients according to established policy and protocols
• Account for and document fees collected according to established policy
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you will need:
• Knowledge of administrative office procedures and practices, including managing files and records
• Familiarity with computer software systems and applications
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Strong time management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
• Ability to prepare reports and correspondence, follow instructions, and meet deadlines
• Basic mathematical calculation skills
• Independent judgment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to gather information to determine appointment needs and make appropriate appointments
• Multitasking, flexibility, and ability to work with unexpected interruptions
• Effective use of HMS within six months of employment
Salary and Benefits:
This position offers a competitive salary range of $34,000 - $36,000 annually, depending on experience.
