The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, overseeing, and adjusting annual and project budgets, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
The Budget Analyst will serve as the primary resource for the preparation and oversight of the City's budgets. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing financial records to ensure accurate transaction recording and compliance with policies.
  • Preparing monthly entries for the general ledger system.
  • Generating budgetary reports for departmental leaders.
  • Leading financial reporting efforts for various departments on a scheduled basis.
  • Conducting monthly bank reconciliations and preparing special financial reports as needed.
  • Maintaining accountability for the annual budget preparation process.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state financial reporting requirements.
  • Designing and implementing effective internal controls for financial reporting.
  • Monitoring expenditures and making necessary budget adjustments.
  • Assisting with year-end closing entries and audits.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial systems analysis and governmental accounting.
  • Familiarity with local and state legislation related to municipal financial records.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and recommend improvements in financial processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with departmental staff.

Physical Requirements
Applicants must be capable of performing essential functions, including reaching, hearing, and repetitive motions, as well as handling light physical tasks associated with office work.

Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, is required. Experience in governmental accounting and budgeting is preferred. Higher education or professional certifications may substitute for some experience.
