Physician Services Coding Specialist II

The primary objective of this role is to accurately code physician charges in multiple specialties for both emergency and surgical encounters by assigning ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPC codes from medical record documentation. A successful candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of insurance and denial issues related to coding and have the ability to follow complex compliance guidelines using relevant coding and compliance resources. Additionally, this role involves presenting coding issues to colleagues and supporting the team as needed, serving as a coach in specific situations.
Key Responsibilities- Assign ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPC codes from documentation, applying appropriate modifiers.
- Resolve claim edits and support the denial process as required.
- Maintain productivity standards and goals set by coding leaders and client contracts.
- Ensure coding quality accuracy rate of 95.5%.
- Mentor and assist in new employee training.
- Meet deadlines and complete assignments before monthly closing dates.
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and coding.
- Must possess knowledge of third-party reimbursement regulations and billing practices.
- Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to understand and follow compliance issues of moderate complexity using relevant coding and compliance resources.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to identify and resolve problems.
- Must possess moderate knowledge of CCI edits and LCDs and be able to accurately apply regulation knowledge to coding situations.
- Conduct self in an ethical, honest, and professional manner, demonstrating continued willingness to learn and grow.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Perform related work as required.
- Vocational or technical education beyond high school.
- Minimum of 3 years coding experience in a relevant specialty.
- Required: AHIMA Credentials, and/or AAPC certification, AAPC Specialty certifications preferred.

Compensation and BenefitsCompensation
- Pay: $20.51-$30.77 per hour. Compensation depends on location, qualifications, and experience.
- Position may be eligible for a signing bonus for qualified new hires, subject to employment status.
- Conifer observed holidays receive time and a half.
