Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our team at the City and County of San Francisco. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care and support to patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide basic nursing and therapeutic procedures to patients under the direction of a licensed physician or registered nurse.
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments, take vital signs, and document patient care and progress.
  • Observe and report significant changes in patient behavior or condition to supervisors or physicians.
  • Prepare patients for treatment and provide emotional support and reassurance.
  • Implement therapeutic activities and document patient participation and progress.
  • Assist rehabilitation therapists in occupational and recreational therapies for patients.
  • Motivate patients to develop independence in performing activities of daily living.
  • Ensure patients follow safe practices to protect themselves and others from personal injury.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Psychiatric Technician license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Working Conditions

Positions may require considerable physical effort in controlling or restraining violent clients, with continuous exposure to conditions that may result in accidents or injuries.
