Position Overview

Role:

The Senior Grants Accountant plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial management of Fenway's Grants Portfolio. Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting Operations, this position entails leading a team of two Grants Accountants, managing the Oracle Grants Module, and fostering collaborative relationships with Grants Managers and other relevant departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Grants Financial Management

  • Take charge of the financial oversight for Fenway's grants portfolio, which includes Federal, State, and Private grants.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and submission of invoices and financial reports, including the calculation of program income.
  • Engage with funding organizations to address and resolve any financial discrepancies.
  • Proactively follow up with funders to guarantee prompt collection of receivables and manage aged accounts receivable.

Accounting and Compliance Duties

  • Collaborate with finance, compliance, and accounting teams to prepare accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, Uniform Administrative Guidance Title 2 CFR 200, and specific funder regulations.
  • Work alongside Grants Managers and Program Managers to ensure alignment of contract and program activities with grant accounting and reporting.
  • Monitor and evaluate financial performance of grants and contracts to ensure compliance and effective spend-down.
  • Conduct indirect cost analysis and propose updated rates for all grants.
  • Lead grant financial audits and site visits.
  • Serve as the primary administrator of the Oracle Grants Module for managing grant accounting.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise two Grants Accountants, providing training, development, and performance management.
  • Establish staffing plans to optimize team effectiveness.
  • Ensure comprehensive orientation and training for new staff.
  • Offer ongoing guidance and support to team members.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Make informed employment-related decisions for assigned staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in grants accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal grant financial requirements and systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues, clients, and vendors.
  • Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Fusion ERP and/or EPM.
  • Understanding of project management principles and tools.
  • Experience in not-for-profit and healthcare sectors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding for prolonged durations.
