We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC). As a key member of our Planning and Design team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the design and development of mechanical systems for our facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical reviews of facilities construction drawings and specifications for mechanical adequacy, compliance with functional requirements, and conformity with standard engineering and construction practices.
- Design and develop layouts, construction drawings, and specifications for facility mechanical systems, including heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, utilities, fuel handling, and industrial ventilation.
- Perform engineering services in support of Architectural and Engineering Contracts, including writing statements of work, estimating fees, negotiation, performance monitoring, and evaluation of bids.
- Advise multi-disciplinary teams on facility development products or services to ensure successful engineering project execution.
- Evaluate engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of utilities equipment and systems to resolve any issues in a timely manner.
- Resolve engineering problems with architectural and engineering contractors, experts from other engineering functions, and co-workers.
- Write documentation to resolve disagreements concerning facilities engineering issues.
- Mentor junior-level engineers and technicians in the design and fabrication of mechanical components.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after must be registered for Selective Service.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA).
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
- This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station.
- You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- You must possess a current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
