Job Overview:
The traditional global payments framework is often slow, costly, and exclusionary, disproportionately affecting the most economically vulnerable populations.

To tackle these issues, Square is working on tbDEX, an open and interoperable protocol that offers a universal framework for developers, businesses, entrepreneurs, and governments to transfer value globally in a more inclusive, efficient, and trustworthy manner.

tbDEX facilitates seamless transactions, commerce, and liquidity; fosters mutual trust and compliance among parties; and establishes common standards within an open network that welcomes all participants, enabling financial institutions, consumer fintech applications, and identity verification services to innovate and thrive.

Engineering Responsibilities:
Square Engineering has a dual focus: creating open-source standards and software development kits (SDKs) while also building and managing our proprietary products. These open-source components are designed to promote the growth of the tbDEX ecosystem by simplifying integration for all participants. Additionally, Square utilizes these components to develop our product offerings, including liquidity nodes and compliance systems.

As a Senior Technical Architect within Square Engineering, you will be instrumental in defining the systems architecture, software design, implementation, and operationalization of our products.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the team in delivering a reliable and maintainable financial services system to production.
- Collaborate closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to define our roadmap and take ownership of delivery.
- Mentor and support fellow engineers to foster their growth and development.
- Establish best practices for production deployment, monitoring, and on-call support.
- Work alongside security engineers to implement secure development practices and ensure system integrity.
- Guide the selection, implementation, and integration of suitable technologies, prioritizing efficiency and adaptability.
- Thrive in a dynamic, startup-like environment within a developing business unit.
- Manage the integration and utilization of evolving open-source projects.
- Contribute to Square's mission of enhancing financial accessibility and serving diverse communities.

Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in developing production-grade systems and applications.
- 10+ years of experience in cloud deployment, particularly with Kubernetes and AWS.
- Proficient in the Go programming language.
- Experience in shaping technical strategy across multiple teams or organizations, demonstrating the ability to drive company-wide standards in software engineering practices.
- Proven capability to transition between individual contributor and technical leadership roles in both large and small organizations.
- Strong operational skills with experience managing services in production.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality software craftsmanship.
- Quick to learn and adapt to new technologies and concepts.
- Skilled in managing multiple responsibilities and context switching.

Preferred Experience:
- Experience in financial technology projects, cryptography, or blockchain.
- Prior experience leading teams that build scalable products as a hands-on manager.
