Job OverviewSenior Project Architect / Technical Lead

Role Summary

In the capacity of Senior Project Architect / Technical Lead, you will take charge of guiding the technical team through the Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documentation stages of various projects. The documents you create are critical deliverables that must clearly and effectively communicate the project scope through a cohesive set of drawings and specifications, ensuring the design intent is understood by users, clients, regulatory authorities, and builders.

*Senior Project Architect / Senior Technical Lead: Demonstrated capability to successfully manage larger and more complex projects, mentor junior staff, and provide technical oversight for projects in progress. Involvement in performance evaluations of technical team members, participation in the recruitment process for technical roles, and engagement in design competitions and project pursuits as necessary.

Business Development / Marketing Responsibilities

  • Engage in project pursuits as necessary (e.g., provide feedback on proposed project timelines, assess BIM (Building Information Modeling) requirements, etc.)
  • Attend industry events (e.g., workshops and seminars for professional development)

Project Initiation

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to:
    1. Offer insights on consultant team selection as needed
    2. Contribute to project scheduling and staffing needs to ensure effective documentation and approvals
  • Advise on schedules for consultant progress and milestone submissions
  • Assist in establishing the internal project production team
  • Oversee the initial project setup within the BIM environment

Programming/Entitlement through Regulatory Approvals

  • During the Schematic Design phase, the Senior Project Architect / Technical Lead will assist in developing the Basis of Design for key systems such as Structural, MEP, etc. Provide technical, constructability, and code-related input to the Design Team.
  • Lead the project team in executing design intent into detailed and coordinated construction documents using BIM:
  • Manage daily communication with the internal technical team, including mentoring junior staff
  • Facilitate daily communication and project coordination with the consultant team
  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to complex design and technical challenges
  • Work with the Project Manager to oversee the creation of the project manual
  • Lead the technical team in implementing QA/QC processes
  • Accountable for all technical detailing and project coordination
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and Project Designer to ensure compliance with code requirements, technical standards, client expectations, and design intent
  • Participate in client meetings as required
  • Engage in the Construction Budget process
  1. Review and provide feedback on construction cost estimates at project milestones
  2. Incorporate Value Engineering items
  • Coordinate with DSA or local jurisdictions and other regulatory agencies to secure approvals

Bidding / Construction Administration / Project Close-Out

  • Support and act as a resource for the lead Construction Administrator during the bidding and construction phases as needed

Administrative Duties

  • Contribute to the enhancement of standards and efficiencies
  • Mentor junior team members

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Architectural / Technical expertise
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering disciplines and documentation
  • Thorough knowledge of DSA / local jurisdictions and building codes
  • Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Awareness of current materials, methods, and practices in the construction industry
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Capability to lead both internal and external teams

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Project Architect / Technical Lead
  • Professional Architectural degree is required
  • Licensure is preferred
