Overview

The Student Success Advisor plays a crucial role in guiding both current and prospective students through their academic journey at the University of Texas at Arlington. This position is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience, promoting student retention, and ensuring successful completion of academic programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized academic guidance to students through various communication methods, including in-person meetings, virtual consultations, phone calls, and email correspondence.
  • Assist students in understanding degree requirements and selecting appropriate courses to meet their educational and career aspirations.
  • Empower students to make informed academic choices by teaching them how to monitor their academic progress and navigate university policies and resources.
  • Regularly assess the academic performance of assigned students, offering timely support and intervention as needed.
  • Verify degree progress, manage administrative holds, and approve necessary documentation to facilitate student advancement.
  • Analyze student data, including transcripts and placement results, to provide tailored advice.
  • Document advising sessions in the university's student information system, adhering to best practices for record-keeping.
  • Stay informed about relevant academic programs and support services, making appropriate referrals to enhance student success.
  • Engage in campus activities, including orientation sessions and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in an academic advising role or similar capacity.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and institutional policies governing academic advising.
  • Proficient in utilizing the university catalog and other academic resources.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize information effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
