Role Overview

The Category Purchasing Manager is responsible for formulating strategies and driving business growth for designated categories, encompassing product selection, vendor negotiations, promotional activities, and providing leadership to the merchandising team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the performance of assigned categories, focusing on growth, profitability, and enhancing customer experience.
  • Manage product selection and develop competitive merchandise assortment strategies to meet financial goals.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with both existing and potential vendors.
  • Foster strong relationships within the vendor community and adapt negotiation approaches as necessary.
  • Lead the creation of sales and margin plans, along with sales forecasts for assigned categories.
  • Communicate merchandising strategies effectively to cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution.
  • Align strategies with business operations while understanding operational goals and challenges.
  • Manage pricing for assigned categories, including price indexing and achieving pricing targets.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to devise pricing, promotional, and campaign strategies for assigned categories.
  • Continuously monitor merchandising performance and respond proactively to business changes to seize opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Provide leadership and training to the merchandising team, offering regular feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain a reputation for credibility and responsiveness in the marketplace.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in merchandising or category management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven analytical and organizational abilities.
