Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Assurance Food Specialist is responsible for executing administrative and laboratory functions as directed by the Quality Control/Quality Assurance Manager. This role requires a dedicated individual who adheres to established guidelines, company protocols, and is willing to gain proficiency in laboratory equipment, methodologies, and sensory assessments.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Familiarity with laboratory testing and analysis is advantageous. Competence in handling samples and laboratory apparatus.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organized documentation practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Self-driven, organized, and capable of seeing tasks through to completion.
  • Effective and clear communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant database management systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generate, distribute, and maintain Certificates of Analysis.
  • Develop internal specification documents.
  • Coordinate necessary testing with external laboratories, including the creation and distribution of testing transmittal forms.
  • Ensure proper storage, organization, and disposal of retained samples.
  • Organize laboratory documentation and understand various filing systems.
  • Cross-train in preparing and conducting sensory evaluations.
  • Cross-train in performing chemical and physical analyses on a variety of samples, including raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods. Tests may include visual inspections, specific gravity, refractive index, flashpoint, brix, pH, moisture content, etc.
  • Input and retrieve information from different system databases.
  • Timely reporting of out-of-specification results to relevant personnel and departments.
  • Cross-train in applicable laboratory instrument calibration tasks.
  • Adhere to established Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining overall laboratory cleanliness and organization.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be capable of sitting or standing for extended durations.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for conducting inspections.
