Our laboratory offers a comprehensive range of services, including tissue pathology, cytology, and histology. We handle various specimens, such as gynecologic samples, body fluids, and fine needle aspirations. Additionally, we provide an extensive selection of special stains and immunohistochemistry techniques to support the diagnosis and management of both oncologic and non-oncologic conditions. Our team consists of highly skilled Histotechnologists, Cytotechnologists, and Technicians dedicated to exceptional service.

Position Summary

The Pathologist Assistant plays a crucial role under the guidance of a pathologist, responsible for the gross examination, sampling, and dictation of human tissues. This position also involves assisting during intraoperative consultations, including frozen sections and gross evaluations. Certification from the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00 pm - 12:30 am

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preparation, gross description, dictation, and dissection of human tissue samples.
  • Select representative sections for embedding, staining, and microscopic analysis.
  • Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentation.
  • Obtain tissue samples, including blood and toxicological materials, for various studies.
  • Photograph significant gross specimens as necessary.
  • Assist in the selection and preparation of frozen section tissues.
  • Review patient medical charts and relevant data with the attending pathologist.
  • Collaborate with the attending pathologist to determine any specialized techniques or procedures required.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper functioning.
  • Manage the supply inventory effectively.
  • Keep grossing stations clean and organized.
  • Dispose of biological and administrative waste appropriately.
  • Address any discrepancies or issues that may arise during procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Completion of an NAACLS-accredited pathologists' assistant program.
  • Current certification from the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy, macro-surgical techniques, and laboratory practices.
  • Proven ability to prepare and evaluate tissue samples efficiently and effectively.
  • Familiarity with voice recognition software, laboratory information systems, and standard office applications.
  • High level of technical proficiency and knowledge of histological techniques.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of $104,000 - $145,000 annually, paid semi-monthly.
