We conduct thorough examinations of gynecologic specimens, body fluids, and fine needle aspirations. Our operations are supported by a dedicated team of Histotechnologists, Cytotechnologists, and skilled technicians who ensure exceptional service.

Position Summary

The Pathologist Assistant plays a vital role under the guidance of a pathologist, responsible for the gross examination, sampling, and dictation of human tissues. This position also involves assisting during intraoperative consultations, including frozen sections and gross examinations. Certification from the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00 pm - 12:30 am

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preparation, gross description, dictation, and dissection of human tissues.
  • Select representative sections for embedding, staining, and microscopic evaluation.
  • Ensure proper specimen accessioning.
  • Obtain tissues such as blood and toxicological materials for various studies.
  • Photograph significant gross specimens as necessary.
  • Assist with the selection and preparation of frozen section tissues.
  • Retrieve and review patient medical charts and relevant data with the attending pathologist.
  • Collaborate with the attending pathologist to determine special techniques or procedures required.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Perform cleaning of grossing stations and manage the disposal of biological and administrative waste.
  • Address any discrepancies or issues that may arise during procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Completion of an NAACLS-accredited pathologists' assistant program.
  • Current certification from the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy, macro-surgical techniques, and general laboratory skills.
  • Proven ability to prepare tissue for evaluation and assist pathologists efficiently.
  • Familiarity with voice recognition software, laboratory information systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • High level of technical competence and knowledge of histological techniques.
