Our laboratory offers a comprehensive range of services, including tissue pathology, cytology, and histology, with a focus on gynecologic specimens, body fluids, and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also provide a variety of special stains and immunohistochemistry techniques to aid in the diagnosis and management of both oncologic and non-oncologic conditions. Our team consists of highly skilled Histotechnologists, Cytologists, Technicians, and administrative staff dedicated to excellence in service.
Position Summary
The Cytologist is expected to operate autonomously with minimal oversight, maintaining a high level of trust and professionalism in interactions with physicians, patients, and colleagues. Responsibilities include participating in quality control initiatives, supporting accreditation efforts, and ensuring compliance with cytology standards. The Cytologist will also be proficient in all key functions, including primary screening of cytology specimens, preparation of reports, and management of laboratory records and supplies.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze GYN and Non-GYN slides under a microscope to detect cellular abnormalities.
- Provide final diagnoses for negative Pap smear evaluations.
- Communicate abnormal Pap smear findings to the Pathologist as preliminary results.
- Conduct rapid adequacy assessments at clinic sites.
- Engage in professional and effective communication with staff, clients, and physicians, utilizing the SBAR communication framework.
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes teamwork.
- Process GYN specimens as necessary.
- Review and re-screen GYN discrepancies, recommending strategies to minimize errors.
- Manage inventory control and restocking of laboratory supplies.
- Oversee and document preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Collaborate with various departments and clients to resolve issues.
- Address specimen and test order discrepancies, notifying management as needed.
- Participate in relevant educational seminars and training sessions.
- Strive for optimal performance and productivity throughout the work shift.
- Complete all tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of work, meeting turnaround time objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
- 2 - 4 years of experience in Cytology.
- ASCP certification required.
- Intermediate proficiency in computer applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
