Position Title: Anatomical Pathology Assistant
Role Summary: In this pivotal role, the Anatomical Pathology Assistant operates under the guidance of a pathologist, engaging in the gross examination, sampling, and documentation of human tissues. This position also involves assisting during intraoperative consultations and necessitates certification from the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and dissect human biological specimens.
- Select appropriate samples for diagnostic evaluation.
- Ensure accurate specimen accessioning procedures.
- Collect tissue samples for various studies.
- Assist in the preparation of frozen sections.
- Gather patient information for pathologist assessment.
- Collaborate with pathologists on procedural techniques.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Ensure cleanliness of workstations and proper waste disposal.
- Address and resolve issues as they arise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
- Completion of an accredited pathologists' assistant training program.
- Certification from ASCP or AAPA is required.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy and laboratory methodologies.
- Experience in tissue preparation and assisting pathologists is preferred.
- Proficiency in relevant laboratory software and systems.
- Technical expertise in histological techniques.
