Animal Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Care Technician to join our team at the Galveston County Health District. As an Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and handling of animals in our shelter, ensuring their health and well-being. This is a critical role that requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and a passion for working with animals.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and maintain animal enclosures and facilities to provide a safe and healthy environment for animals
- Provide exceptional care and handling of animals, including feeding, grooming, and administering medications
- Perform euthanasia procedures in accordance with district policies and procedures
- Document animal care and handling activities, including medication administration and animal behavior
- Assist with animal intake and processing, including receiving and processing animals turned in by the public and Animal Control Officers
- Provide excellent customer service to the public, including answering questions and providing information about animal care and handling
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve district goals and objectives
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in animal science or a related field preferred
- Experience working with animals, preferably in a shelter or veterinary setting
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment
