Manufacturing Operations Manager

About the Role

This position is part of Abbott's Structural Heart division, responsible for driving process improvement and lean principles on the production line. The successful candidate will manage and be accountable for their shift's performance in terms of safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high visibility with production staff, using a hands-on approach to communicate daily and involve them in problem-solving.
  • Develop a high-performance work team with high levels of worker morale, satisfaction, and performance.
  • Create and maintain a respectful work environment by listening, seeking facts to support decisions, managing one's own reactions, and addressing unacceptable behavior.
  • Help production staff succeed through performance management, providing coaching and performance communication to support development.
  • Review general production schedules to identify and resolve problems.
  • Ensure desired product quality levels are achieved through standard work, training, and use of tools/data.
  • Support and implement new, customer-focused processes in accordance with lean principles and practices.
  • Provide training and coaching to improve standard work, work center organization, and housekeeping.
  • Support and foster an environment of continuous improvement by encouraging production staff to challenge existing processes and implement solutions.
  • Support production staff in understanding company policies and practices, communicating with and listening to them on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with other supervisors and personnel regarding equipment, safety, work center schedules, company policies, and performance improvement plans.
  • Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff, providing ongoing performance feedback.

Requirements

  • High school or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Strong leadership skills, including setting goals and providing positive and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Heart and tissue valve experience preferred.
