Job Description and Duties

The Department of Justice seeks a highly skilled Crime Analyst Supervisor to lead the Armed and Prohibited Persons Unit. Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and administration of the APPU staff in analyzing complex data to determine Firearms and Ammunition prohibitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and direct various activities associated with the supervision and administration of the APPU staff.
  • Must know legislative mandates with the work processes and have the ability to analyze workload and staffing levels to ensure production and quality goals within the legislatively mandated timeframes are met.
  • Provide information to law enforcement to assist in the investigation of prohibited individuals as well as provide information to criminal justice agencies, the Legislature, and BOF Management regarding California's firearms laws.
  • Additional supervisory-related duties, such as developing detailed processing procedures, interviewing and hiring staff, evaluating employees, and resolving personnel issues.

Working Conditions:

The Department of Justice has adopted telework for employees who can effectively perform their essential work functions remotely. After an initial training period, this position may allow for some telework opportunities. All telework schedules are based on current conditions and may be re-evaluated as conditions change.
