Job Title: Assistant Mechanical Engineer

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Mechanical Engineer to join its team. As a key member of the Asset & Capital Management (A&CM) Division, you will be responsible for performing mechanical engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.

The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work. Alternatively, a baccalaureate degree and a Master's degree in mechanical engineering will also be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing responsible design work, including preparation of contract documents for upgrading building systems and/or designing new systems.
  • Performing work in design, inspection, and testing.
  • Preparing condition assessment and feasibility reports and construction drawings using AutoCAD and other software as applicable.
  • Preparing and performing tasks, assignments, and processes on e-builder program.
  • Engaging in research and investigation related to the mechanical engineering functions, including the repair and capital improvement of NYCHA infrastructures.
  • Preparing bid documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Conducting field visits and emergency site visits, including investigation of unsafe conditions throughout all five boroughs.
  • Responding to RFIs with solutions to problems encountered prior to bid or during construction.
  • Coordinating the assigned design work with other disciplines and project managers.
  • Monitoring progress of assignments against design/construction scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Reviewing A/E consultants and contractors' mechanical submissions.
  • Preparing cost estimates; tracking project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinating construction documents and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinating with design teams to establish and assure implementation of mechanical design standards for the Capital Program.
