The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is in search of a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Special Operations Warfare Defense Technologist with a robust background in assisting the US Government in the strategic planning and execution of extensive technology initiatives. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in cyber operations, electronic warfare, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), space operations, land, surface, and undersea warfare, air combat, tactical intelligence, special operations, and wargaming.

Successful candidates for these roles will contribute to the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the National Capital Region. These positions are part of the DoD's Assault Breaker II (ABII) program and require individuals with experience in various program functions, including:

  • Facilitating technology transition and participating in working groups
  • Coordinating with DARPA to ensure timely communication of transitional capabilities and synchronizing internal communications to mitigate risks and enhance successful transitions
  • Providing expert support to the Special Operations portfolio, leveraging your extensive knowledge to assist OSD oversight and portfolio management of special operations systems acquisition
  • Understanding the technological requirements of joint warfighters in the context of special operations, irregular warfare, asymmetric warfare, and clandestine missions
  • Formulating strategic and technical plans for the Special Operations portfolio while offering expert guidance for the ABII program
  • Conducting research to aid procurement activities, schedules, and technology/system transfers
  • Leading the development and execution of assessments, demonstrations, and field trials for the Special Operations portfolio
  • Performing quantitative analyses of system/mission requirements concerning the integration of advanced technologies
  • Assisting in assembling senior advisory panels to provide studies and assessments on systems and technologies related to the ABII program
  • Defining test objectives and procedures
  • Developing systems architecture

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in advancing the development and implementation of cutting-edge special operations warfare technologies and systems
  • Experience in a warfare specialty, including planning, developing, and executing technical projects of a research and development nature, addressing unique or complex challenges impacting major DoD programs
  • Proven ability to conceive, plan, and conduct research studies that combine operational expertise with innovative technological approaches and advanced research techniques to evaluate military effectiveness and engineering feasibility
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced techniques, theories, and practices in technological programs, preferably those that have transitioned to operational use, or programs for the DoD or Intelligence Community
  • Current DoD TOP SECRET Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Capability to conduct kill chain analysis, capability gap analysis, and identify relevant metrics or performance parameters to inform the development of CONOPS and/or CONEMPS
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent time management abilities

Desired Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience and knowledge of program transition efforts are highly desirable
  • Experience with Joint/Combatant Commands (COCOM) is highly desirable
  • Experience supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense and/or DARPA
  • Familiarity with the Assault Breaker program and related modeling and simulation tools
  • Experience with various modeling and simulation platforms and architectures (e.g., AFSIM) and model-based system engineering (MBSE)

This position is contingent upon the award of a contract supporting the Department of Defense.
