Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a proficient Mechanical Facilities Process Engineer to contribute to our innovative projects. This position focuses on enhancing production facilities related to explosives and energetic materials, munitions production, and the design of advanced production systems. As a crucial member of our organization, you will work alongside experts and federal partners to improve research and development capabilities while supporting ongoing production activities. The primary objective of this role is to refine mechanical systems and processes to achieve operational excellence, reliability, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems and processes within facilities to pinpoint opportunities for improvement, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utility systems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance mechanical processes, reduce energy consumption, and elevate overall facility performance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and execute projects aimed at boosting the reliability and efficiency of mechanical systems.
  • Perform technical evaluations and feasibility analyses for facility upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, taking into account energy efficiency and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance for diagnosing mechanical issues, identifying root causes, and applying corrective actions to minimize operational interruptions.
  • Create preventive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment to ensure maximum reliability.
  • Stay informed about industry standards, regulations, and best practices in mechanical engineering and energy efficiency.
  • Compile technical reports and documentation for mechanical projects, ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on facilities management, particularly in industrial or commercial environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems design, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utilities.
  • Experience in facility energy management, encompassing energy audits and HVAC optimization.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with building management systems and energy monitoring technologies.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and ASME.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Work authorization in the United States is required. US citizenship is necessary for this role.
