Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at the University of Maryland. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing assessments of the campus electrical distribution and central utility plant electrical systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the design and replacement/upgrade of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Act as the project manager for electrical system maintenance and upgrade efforts.
  • Evaluate the electrical distribution systems for the campus and in the central utility plants and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Plan and coordinate utility outages in support of maintenance & repair and act as primary liaison with campus projects that interact with existing utilities and/or incorporate new utilities.
  • Coordinate any unplanned electrical system outages with affected parties and work to minimize impact to the campus community.
  • Provide analysis, design and construction support for the Energy Management & Utilities team, Engineering & Energy (E&E) unit, other FM units and independent college projects and construction activities as they affect campus mechanical utilities.
  • Assure that project goals include the improvement of utility system reliability and efficiency.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar related technology field.
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of experience including design, commissioning, testing and/or operation and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience should be in performing similar duties with complex electrical distribution systems as well as in-plant equipment.
  • Position requires at least five (3) years' experience in the design and operating evaluation of Central Plant and distribution systems, including transformers, breakers, protective relaying, switches, motors, generators and other electrical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer or EIT.
  • Knowledge and use of field test equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical modeling software like SKM a plus.

The University of Maryland offers a competitive salary range of $92,164 - $115,205 and a comprehensive benefits package.
