Role Summary:

The SPEAR division within Apple's Security Engineering & Architecture organization is seeking a dedicated software quality assurance engineer who is passionate about ensuring the excellence of innovative software security functionalities.

SPEAR is a specialized group of engineers focused on enhancing security across all of Apple's operating systems. We engage with various codebases across all layers of the software architecture. Our team develops significant and impactful security features that necessitate thorough test development and execution to ensure seamless integration and success.

Our efforts lead to substantial enhancements in the security of Apple's applications and services, all while preserving the refined user experience relied upon by over a billion users daily.

As a quality assurance engineer within SPEAR, your role will involve testing SPEAR's features to confirm they meet their security objectives while upholding functionality, stability, and performance standards.

You will collaborate closely with SPEAR software developers throughout all project stages, contributing to feature definition, quality planning, and test development.

This position will provide you with experience in testing software across a broad spectrum of Apple's software ecosystem. Your contributions will be essential to the SPEAR team's ambition of surpassing partner teams' expectations for feature quality.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Quality Assurance Automation Engineer in the SPEAR team, your responsibilities will include:


  • Collaborating with feature teams to integrate existing automation frameworks.
  • Crafting comprehensive feature test plans to ensure objectives are met without compromising functionality, performance, power, or stability.
  • Developing new tests as necessary to achieve sufficient coverage.
  • Automating both end-to-end and unit-level testing processes.
  • Overseeing automated testing and addressing test failures.
  • Reporting on testing progress and ensuring that regressions are resolved.


Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years of QA experience with iOS and/or macOS
Proven track record in creating tests that uncover complex software defects
Strong analytical skills for conducting initial triage on test failures
Familiarity with the XCTest framework
Proficiency in automation languages such as Python and Swift
Detail-oriented approach to understanding, documenting, and executing test requirements
Effective communication skills regarding technical subjects (both verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience

Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is one component of our overall compensation package and is determined within a range.

This structure allows for progression as you grow and develop within your role.

The base pay range for this position is between $136,300 and $248,700, with your base pay depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees may be eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
