Job Summary

The Editorial Fellowship is a year-long training program focused on editing and drafting op-eds to ensure priority projects are executed in a timely manner to expected editorial standards. This position requires working with research departments to produce high-impact content that advances The Heritage Foundation's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Editorial Support: Serve as an editor for Heritage-produced op-eds and commentaries, ensuring messaging on Heritage policy research is clear, persuasive, precise, and easily digestible on various media platforms.
  • Op-Ed Development: Identify opportunities to request op-eds from experts on timely, high-priority issues and develop relationships with opinion editors at a range of news outlets.
  • Content Creation: Assist the Associate Director, Editorial, in conducting trainings to help improve the persuasive writing skills of Heritage policy experts through participation in regular workshop instruction.
  • Communications Support: Contribute to the Strategic Communications Department twice-weekly newsletter and remain up-to-date and well-versed on Heritage research and policy positions.
  • Research and Innovation: Research and propose new communications ideas, strategies, and best practices to ensure the department is innovating and operating efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
  • Education: College-level experience encouraged
  • Experience: Past public relations or journalism internships encouraged
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and writing skills; superior editing skills
  • Technology: Microsoft Suite
  • Other Requirements: Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department's goals and objectives; possess excellent organizational, planning, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Benefits and Salary

The salary for this role is $50,000 annually. As a temporary position, this role is eligible for some of The Heritage Foundation's benefits package, including 'take what you need' PTO and sick leave.
