Role Overview

As a member of Wispr's Machine Learning team, you will focus on developing foundation models that enhance human-machine interaction.

Your responsibilities will encompass the research and development of essential ML models, establishing infrastructure for experimentation, creating metrics for success evaluation, and managing data curation efforts. You will collaborate closely with research scientists and product teams to validate models in practical settings. Your work may involve unsupervised pre-training, semi-supervised learning, synthetic data generation, and multi-modal feature extraction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and enhance deep learning architectures for processing neural signals from innovative hardware.
  • Scale data collection processes and conduct experiments on extensive datasets.
  • Establish best practices for ML research and set benchmarks for model evaluation across the organization.
  • Investigate and develop novel techniques for decoding neural signals with minimal latency.
  • Collaborate with neuroscientists, ML engineers, and interaction designers to unlock new capabilities for seamless human-computer interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of practical research experience in machine learning, either in academia or industry.
  • A strong publication record demonstrating research capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., Pytorch, Numpy, Pandas).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building foundation models from the ground up.
  • Contributions to open-source machine learning libraries.
  • Familiarity with bio-signals (e.g., EMG, EEG, EKG) or real-world noisy data (e.g., from autonomous vehicles).
  • Knowledge of innovative methods for enhancing model performance, including the use of synthetic data and unsupervised pre-training.
  • Experience in automatic speech recognition (ASR) or natural language processing (NLP) systems.
  • Research experience in a deep tech company or specialized projects group.
