Job Summary

Mativ is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research and Development Associate to support our Sustainability and Adhesives Solutions Function. As a key member of our research and development team, you will work closely with our applications chemist to prepare and test custom designed samples and developmental products in accordance with MOC innovation, customer, and/or market requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and test custom designed samples and developmental products in accordance with MOC innovation, customer, and/or market requirements.
Obtain raw materials from inventory, including wet adhesives, release liners, solvents, special adhesives, etc.
Send samples of laboratory prepared potential new products to customers.
Perform standard and specialized tests, including testing for peel adhesion, adhesive shear strength, tack, etc. on Scapa and competitive materials.
Interpret test results and make recommendations to supervisor.
Coordinate with other departments as necessary (operations, quality assurance, purchasing, warehouse, etc.).
Train new lab personnel on lab procedures and test methods.
Set up and operate various pieces of testing equipment.

Requirements

High School diploma required.
Actively pursuing an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Master's Degree in Chemistry or related field preferred.
Proficient using MS Office.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

The ideal candidate will have the confidence to work in a manufacturing environment with internal clients who are dedicated professionals. The position demands a methodical, rigorous, and persistent individual who is literate, numerate, highly organized, diligent, and structured. The ability to work with key stakeholders, minimal supervision, and deliver to schedule and quality objectives is essential. The position requires working in a manufacturing environment with air temperatures ranging from cold to hot, atmosphere containing dust, fumes, and odors, and potential mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, including safety shoes, safety glasses, bump caps, protective gloves, hearing protection, and other equipment as necessary for certain tasks. The employee must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds, work 12-hour shifts, perform repetitive tasks, stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk, reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, and have good close vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
