Sleep Technologist-Pediatrics Sleep Study Lab Specialist
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled Sleep Technologist-Pediatrics Sleep Study Lab Specialist to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education.
Key Responsibilities:- Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
- Determines final testing parameters and procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Reviews patient history and verifies medical orders, following sleep center protocols related to the sleep study.
- Verifies patient identification, collects documents, and obtains consent for the study.
- Explains the procedure and orients the patient for sleep testing.
- Selects appropriate equipment and calibrates for testing to determine proper functioning and adjusts, if necessary.
- Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
- Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free.
- Identifies, corrects, and documents artifact.
- Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
- Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards.
- Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Performs routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
- Completes all ad hoc projects and tasks as required or as directed by the supervisor or site director.
- Education Requirements: High school graduate or the equivalent.
- Associate or higher degree program in polysomnographic technology preferred.
- Experience Requirements: 3 years' minimum experience as a Polysomnographic Technician or Technologist.
- Licensing and Certification Requirements: Authorized Polysomnographic Technologist licensed in New York State in good standing.
- Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.
- Current BLS certification.
