Job Summary

xAI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Fiber Technician to join our team at our Memphis data center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all phases of datacenter installation projects, ensuring a safe and productive work environment, and developing sensor indicators to prevent faulty fiber optic systems from destabilizing their performance.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all phases of datacenter installation projects under the guidance of the Foreman Supervisor, Project Manager, and Superintendent.
  • Ensure a safe and productive work environment by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures.
  • Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections to prevent faulty fiber optic systems from destabilizing their performance.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, repair, and install fiber optics systems to ensure they work properly.
  • Examine and replace faulty and/or old fiber optic cables to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Organize scheduled maintenance routines to prevent system downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas to maintain system integrity.
  • Keep track of the signal strength of different devices to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Formulate and maintain system records and system designs to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of direct data center experience installing and routing optical fiber in large-scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities as a commercial fiber optic technician.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation.
  • Extensive experience in fiber splicing.
  • Technical knowledge of communication networks.
  • Knowledgeable of computers and associated electronic systems.
  • Knowledgeable of different fiber types.
  • Experience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environments.
  • Experience installing structured cabling.
  • Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes.
  • Able to understand different types of switches and port identifications.
  • Able to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness.
Additional Requirements
  • Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Position is subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks.
  • Work is often performed in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs. unassisted.
  • Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear.
  • Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.
