About the Role

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our team. As an EHS Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and identify root causes of incidents, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Monitor the workplace environment, analyzing work processes, materials, equipment, and employee work habits to identify potential hazards and take corrective action.
  • Develop and oversee EHS training programs for employees, covering topics such as employee right-to-know, hazardous material handling, laser safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety.
  • Plan and schedule work to meet deadlines, working independently and using judgment to develop and design solutions to complex health and safety problems.
  • Perform traditional EHS duties, including job safety analyses, health and safety training, workplace incident investigations, workplace safety inspections, and internal audits, as directed.
  • Support the EHS team in managing hazardous materials and hazardous waste activities, including collection, transportation, and disposal, in compliance with applicable regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field, with both hands-on and program management experience.
  • Ability to navigate and interpret EHS regulations.
  • Expected to function with little direction and be able to independently drive complex projects to completion.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multitasking, prioritization, and meeting deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel, including internationally.
