Housing Support Specialist Overview

The Housing Support Specialist is integral in assisting individuals enrolled in housing subsidy initiatives by evaluating ongoing eligibility, responding to inquiries from clients, landlords, and case managers, and ensuring that clients obtain necessary rental subsidy support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate applications based on income, disability status, and homelessness criteria.
  • Conduct annual and interim recertifications efficiently.
  • Review client documentation, including pay stubs and benefit statements.
  • Manage household changes promptly with appropriate documentation.
  • Work with landlords to finalize lease agreements and Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contracts.
  • Address violations of program policies and issues related to housing stability.
  • Communicate with the finance department regarding payment procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency inspections and necessary repairs.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to provide essential support to participants.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns from participants, landlords, and case managers.
  • Maintain precise tenant files and documentation.
  • Assist with software system navigation and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to team objectives and assist with additional tasks as required.

A high school diploma or GED is mandatory, with a preference for an Associate's Degree in Social Services and experience in housing assistance programs or mental health support.
