Position Overview

The Lead Geographic Information Systems Specialist will be an integral member of the GIS Center of Excellence at Ecolab. This role is primarily focused on supporting and managing spatially-driven business initiatives related to territory applications within market, route, and operational planning for the Institutional Division. As the principal GIS Specialist, you will utilize various GIS analytical techniques to address intricate challenges and deliver insights that facilitate informed decision-making and enhance business outcomes.

The GIS Center of Excellence plays a vital role in meeting essential business requirements by enhancing responsiveness, effectiveness, and efficiency through innovative research, structured architectures, and optimal utilization of GIS alongside other transformative technologies.

Your contributions will foster a cohesive, proactive GIS-based planning strategy by introducing new perspectives to business operations, ultimately improving field service and sales productivity through the identification and implementation of spatially-driven business intelligence insights. You will report directly to the Institutional GIS Manager within the GIS Center of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee GIS elements of strategic technical projects within the division.
  • Conduct data mining and cleansing to transform diverse datasets into the required formats, utilizing a digital map library in various formats to illustrate geographic patterns and insights.
  • Employ GIS industry expertise and analytical skills to provide insights that empower field teams to enhance their service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Developer, Senior Developer, and GIS Analysts to support the automation and development of analytical GIS processes aimed at improving route and territory optimizations through various criteria and models.
  • Utilize coding, geospatial, statistical, and modeling tools to identify underlying opportunities.
  • Integrate internal and external topographical data to reveal new business insights.
  • Develop or adjust procedures to address complex GIS analysis and modeling tasks that influence key decision-making.
  • Engage directly with field management and business leaders to apply analytical GIS insights to enhance business development and optimize routes and territories.
  • Create maps that depict the spatial distribution of various data and statistics.
  • Leverage GIS industry knowledge and analytical expertise to provide insights that enable field teams to improve service delivery.
  • Enhancements in service delivery will contribute to increased customer satisfaction, employee retention, safety, work-life balance, and income opportunities.
  • Report on statistical findings and provide summaries of GIS analytics.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver GIS analysis that meets their business requirements.
  • Assist in developing project scopes and objectives through practical application, networking, research, and the use of relevant technology.
  • Guide business partners and users in understanding and adopting GIS information and analysis outputs.
  • Document methodologies employed in executing requests and standard reporting.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with team members.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with project teams and management.
  • Provide leadership through example and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business, Geography, Planning, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a professional capacity related to computer-based information analysis.
  • At least 2 years of experience with databases, applying analytics, data science, mathematics, and statistics to derive insights from data.
  • Experience with SQL Server and relational databases, including query structuring.
  • Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS Software.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to develop maps, information, and reports that support decision-making.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and work independently while developing advanced skills.
  • Capability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet, database, and word-processing applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • No immigration sponsorship is available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience with Esri ArcGIS or SQL enterprise, focusing on data development, manipulation, modeling, and analysis.
  • 2 years of experience with Esri ArcGIS, including Network Analyst tools and functionalities.
  • 2 years of experience in Geocoding and Address Matching fundamentals.
  • Experience with Python programming.
  • Familiarity with IDEs such as Visual Studio Code, Pycharm, and Jupyter Notebook.
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle methodologies including ITIL, DevOps, GitHub, Scrum, and Agile.
  • Experience in business analysis and applying GIS to territory and route design.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcOnline/Enterprise/Portal for ArcGIS.
  • Experience with Esri Enterprise Geodatabases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience in global mapping initiatives.
