Job Title: Library Assistant

Join the Porter County Public Library System team as a Library Assistant, providing exceptional customer service and hospitality to our patrons.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist with various library tasks, including programming, circulation, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be comfortable with technology, and have a passion for working with the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with programming and events, including setup, execution, and teardown.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with circulation tasks, including shelving, shifting, and merchandising.
  • Participate in community engagement events, promoting library services and programs.
  • Perform basic tasks in custodial maintenance, including cleaning and organization of facilities and grounds.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and use software and technology relevant to the position.
Working Conditions:

The Library Assistant will work in a fast-paced library environment, interacting with patrons and staff. The position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds, push or pull at least 100 pounds on wheels, and engage in extensive bending, stooping, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.

Salary and Benefits:

The Library Assistant will be compensated at a rate of $14.18 per hour, with opportunities for advancement and professional development.
